If the answer to the above question is yes, perhaps you might scale back next year. That’s what this person did. In a previous post, he wrote about the “Buy Nothing Christmas” campaign, started by a religious group. It makes sense to me. Although we love all that goes along with the Christmas season, the cards, presents, decorations, food…it can get a little out of hand sometimes.
While I don’t think we’ll ever completely give up on our Christmas traditions, there are definitely things that can be done to scale back as noted on A to Z tips for a Green Christmas. How about giving a gift of time or talent? That would certainly cut down on the overconsumption during Christmas. And while this isn’t about scaling back, but more cutting out some of the clutter of Christmas, why not buy some batteries that recharge when you plug them into your computer’s USB port? Whatever you do, it pays to get started early.
